May Card Class "Birds of a Feather"
Here are the cards that we made in May’s class. This month it was all for the birds. The Bird Banter and Flying Home stamp sets are retiring on May 31st so get them before they fly away! Recipes are included with each project and the supply details are listed at the end of this post.
Card 1: Toucan of My Appreciation
Send a bunch of hearts collected by this little toucan to that special someone. The toucan and sentiment are from the Bird Banter stamp set. The toucan was colored with Stampin’ Blends. The heart outline is from the Bird Banter set and the filler for the heart is from the Jar of Love stamp set.
Here is the recipe:
Stamp Sets: Bird Banter, Jar of Love
Daffodil Delight for card backing 5 1/2 x 8 1/2”
Basic Black cardstock 2 1/4 x 3 1/2”
Whisper white cardstock 2 x 3 1/4"
Petal Passion designer series paper 3 x 4”
Ink: Real Red Classic Pad, Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
Stampin’ Blends: Smoky Slate, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight
Card 2: Parrot Birthday Wish
Wish someone a happy birthday with this colorful parrot, also from the Bird Banter stamp set, along with the other images used in this card. After coloring using Stampin’ Blends, Wink of Stella was used on the parrot for some sparkle to coordinate with the balloon. The balloon was punched from glimmer paper using the balloon punch (smaller size). The Sweet Sugarplum cardstock was embossed with the Petal Burst textured impressions embossing folder.
Here is the recipe:

Card 3: Birdhouse Birthday
The spotlight technique was used on this card to highlight the little bird in its house. This involved stamping the image on the background cardstock. Then stamping it again on another piece (in this case it was whisper white cardstock) and punching out only a selected area. Then the selected area can be highlighted further with coloring. The spotlighted area was punched with the 1 1/4” circle punch and framed with a basic black circle punched using the 1 3/8” circle punch. This technique is also helpful because it reduces a large coloring area to just the spotlighted portion.
Here is the recipe:
Stamp Set: Flying Home, Bird Banter
Pool Party for card backing 5 1/2 x 8 1/2”
Real Red cardstock 3 1/4 x 3 1/2”
Daffodil Delight cardstock 3 x 1 1/4“
Basic Black cardstock 1 3/8”circle
Whisper White cardstock 1 1/4” circle
1 3/8” circle punch and 1 1/4” circle punch
Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
Stampin’ Blends: Pool Party, Crumb Cake, Calypso Coral
Stampin’ Write Markers: Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Smoky Slate, Pear Pizzazz
Card 4: Happy Bird-Day
This cute little cockatiel will make that birthday person smile when you wish them a happy bird-day! The birthday sentiment was stamped first, then the cockatiel was stamped second because it is a photopolymer stamp so placement on the letter was easy. Coloring the b-i-r-d letter in blue then made that word stand out. Stampin’ blends really helped to give the images a print quality.
Here is the recipe:
Stamp Sets: Bird Banter, Birthday Wishes for You
Pear Pizzazz for card backing 5 1/2 x 8 1/2”
Pumpkin Pie cardstock 4 x 2 1/2"
