June Card Class "We Want Cake"

Here are the cards that we made in my June card class, "We Want Cake" on June 25th and 26th.  We made  3 of each card.  The first card is a bunch of birthday balloons.  They reminded me of summer vacation and amusement parks.  The card backing and the leftmost balloon are in Peekaboo Peach, a new 2016-2018 In Color.  This summery color reminds me of a creamsicle.

The balloons were made using the images from the Balloon Builders set and stamped in Peekaboo Peach, Watermelon wonder and Pear Pizzazz.  The balloon string was stamped in smoky slate.  The faces were also stamped in smoky slate from images in the Playful Pals set.  The sentiment is from the Watercolor Words set and was stamped in Tip Top Taupe.  Here are the supplies used to make this card:

The next card is an elephant holding a sign with his pal, a cute little mouse.  This one has a birthday sentiment but it can be used for any occasion.  One of the new 2016-2018 colors, Dapper Denim, is the card backing.

The tail on the sign was made using the triple banner punch.  It was decorated with polka dots using the eraser tip of a pencil in soft sky ink.  A toothpick was used for the sign pole.  Here are the supplies used for this card:

The third card is a favorite because of the owl made from playful pals.  On the inside, I used the party pop-up thinlits and there is another owl peeking out who looks like he is saying hip hip hooray.

The confetti on the front of the card are the shapes cut out from the Hip Hip Hooray on the inside.  The balloon strings were drawn using the 01 journaling pen marker size.  Here are the supplies used to make this card:

And finally, here is a birthday shaker card.  We used the new foam adhesive strips to create the window for the shaker.  These new foam adhesive strips are perfect to easily create shaker cards with windows of any shape.  The featured color is sweet sugarplum, another new 2016-2018 In-Color.

I thought it might be helpful to have the steps I followed to make this card:

  1. Stamp the cake in the middle of a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2" whisper white cardstock using early espresso ink.  Color in the cake.  Accent the candle flames using gold Wink of Stella.  Set aside.
  2. From the sweet sugarplum cardstock (2 3/4" x 4"), punch a 2 " circle that is evenly spaced from the top and side edges.
  3. Stamp the birthday sentiment on the sweet sugarplum cardstock.
  4. On the back of the sugarplum cardstock, attach a square window sheet (2 5/5 x 2 5/8") using snail around the edges so that the circle window is covered.
  5. On the back of the sugarplum cardstock on the windowsheet, use a foam adhesive strip and follow the circle window about 1/8" away from the edge.  Cut the extra foam strip remaining and attach it to the bottom portion of the sweet sugarplum cardstock.
  6. In the well just created by the foam adhesive strip, add confetti.  I added 10 gold sequins and confetti that I punched using the new Sprinkles punch (p. 187)
  7. Remove the backing from the foam strip.  Lift the sugarplum piece and looking through the window, attach the stamped cake image to the foam adhesive so that it is centered.  Now the shaker portion of the card is complete.
  8. Attach this piece to the early espresso cardstock.
  9. Emboss the whisper white cardstock card backing.
  10. Attach the shaker piece to the card backing using tear and tape.

Here are the supplies used to create this card.
