Sweet as Sugar - March 2024 Class
03/22/2024
Here are the cards from my Sweet as Sugar class. The stamp sets and products are from the Mini Catalog and On-line Exclusives and will satisfy your crafty sweet tooth! Recipes are included with each project and the supply details are listed at the end of this post. Thanks for stopping by!
Card 1: Soft Serve Swirl Cone
This ice cream cone is good enough to eat! I used colors for my favorite ice cream swirl combination of chocolate (early espresso cardstock) and vanilla (basic white cardstock). All of the shapes were cut using the Ice Cream Swirl dies. The cone has an additional die that embosses the pattern. The sprinkles are Rainbow Adhesive-backed dots that match the DSP and cardstock colors. There is also coordinating bakers twine. This card is a backfold card—the ice cream cone is attached to the right panel so that the front of the card tucks under it. The card base is 7 ¼ x 5 ½” and is scored at 3” and 6”, leaving a 1 ¼ “ section that serves as the backfold so that the card can easily be opened and closed, see photo.
Here is the recipe:
- Stamp Set: Ice Cream Swirl*
- Dies: Ice Cream Swirl”
- Lighter Than Air DSP 2 ¾ x 5 ¼” and 1 x 5 ¼”
- Lemon Lolly cardstock 7 ¼ x 5 ½”, scored at 3” and 6”; for class there was a card base in each of these colors: Lemon Lolly, Balmy Blue, and Flirty Flamingo

Card 2: Donuts
Here is a card that will tempt you to go to the bakery. These donuts (from the Carnival Treats set) could be glazed in all colors of the rainbow. The smiling face is from the Bee My Valentine set. The conversation bubble was made using the bee from the Bee Builder Punch. The Carnival Treats set has other goodies like a candied apple, which is the 2nd card shown here. You could also mix and match-- there are more images in the set like cotton candy, popcorn, a hot dog and milkshake.
Tips:
- Stamp the donut in a lighter ink so that you can color the dough portion of the donut in another color, like crumb cake. For this card, I used Bubble Bath.
- Another alternative is to stamp the donut in 1 color for the glaze, then 1 color for the donut. Then cut out the glaze and attach it over the one in the donut color.
Here is the recipe:
- Stamp Sets: Carnival Treats (host set), Bee My Valentine (face), Ice Cream Swirl (sentiment), Just My Type (sentiment)
- Lighter Than Air DSP 2 x 5 ½”
- Bubble Bath cardstock 5 ½ x 8 ½”; for class there was a card base in each of these colors: Bubble Bath, Fresh Freesia, and Pool Party
- Basic Black cardstock 4 ¼ x 2 5/8”
- Basic White cardstock 4 1/8 x 2 ½”
- Crumb Cake cardstock for conversation bubble (punched using Bee Builder punch)
- Bee Builder Punch
- Rainbow adhesive-backed dots
- Ink Pads: Bubble Bath Classic Ink, Pecan Pie Classic Ink, Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
- Stampin’ Blends: Crumb Cake, Fresh Freesia, Flirty Flamingo
Card 3: Fruit Basket
These cards use fruits from the Ice Cream Swirl stamp set (strawberries and cherries) and Simply Sparking stamp set (lemons). And the coordinating dies for each of the stamp sets were used to cut out one of the fruits in the basket and the fruit outside the basket. The basket is die cut from the Glorious Gingham DSP, which is also used as a background strip and gives the card a farm/picnic feel. These fruits would also look cute with a face on them—something to try later! For some sparkle, after coloring the fruit with blends, I used Wink of Stella.
Tips:
- For the larger fruits (strawberries and lemons) in the basket, the overlaps are covered by the fruit placed in the front.
- For the basket of cherries, I used a mask. I cut a mask from a post it using the cherry die. Then I stamped the lower cherry, placed the mask on the stamped cherry and stamped the next cherry—no overlapping outlines!
