February Class "Pick A Pop"

The idea for this month's class name came from a place that we used to go to as kids--a store called Pick a Pop.  It had stacked orange plastic crates that contained bottles of soda in all kinds of flavors and all colors of the rainbow.  The bottles were clear glass and had the name of the store on it.  We used to get these sodas for special occasions like birthday parties and other family get togethers.  The images in the Bubbles & Fizz designer paper and the Bubble Over bundle brought back these memories.  All of the class projects use one or more of these products. Here are the cards that we made in February's class.  The supplies used are listed at the end of this post.

Card #1: Birthday Brew

Yay, a masculine birthday card!  Perfect for those 21 and over birthday boys.  Simple and clean, we used the Bottles & Bubbles framelits and coordinating stamps from Bubble Over.  Then Celebrate was cut out using the Sale-A-Bration Celebrate You thinlits dies.  The background wood is from the Wood Textures designer series paper stack.  Cheers mate!

Card #2: You're Cool Bottlecaps

I really like how showcasing designer paper makes for a quick and easy card.  Pick the design that you like, add a sentiment and you are done!  This one could be a masculine card too.  Bubbles & Fizz is the designer paper and the words are from the Cool Treats stamp set.  The heart is from the Bubble Over stamp set and stamped in Calypso Coral to coordinate with the designer paper.  The 2" circle punch was used for the message and the Layering Circles framelits was used for the scalloped circle.

Card #3: Bubble Over

These bottles were cut out from the Bubbles & Fizz designer paper.  There are many different bottles and color combinations to choose from.  The straws were made using the Bottles & Bubbles framelits.  The bubbles were stamped in versamark.  For the designer paper strip that was used on this card, it was cut at 1 1/2" x 4".  It was cut at 4" wide instead of 4 1/4 inches to maximize the number of pieces that could be cut from the 12x12" sheet.  The strip was cut into two lengths, and the cut  and gap in the paper was hidden under the bottles so that it could be stretched to fit into the 4 1/4" space.

Card #4: Bear and Rabbit Bottle Party

Of course we find any way that we can to involve critters!  Bear and rabbit are ready for a party and enjoying their bottles of pop.  These little bottles were cut out from the Bubbles & Fizz designer paper.  The animals are from the We Must Celebrate stamp set--there was actually a squirrel and raccoon standing with them, but we cut the stamp to only use the bear and rabbit.  It's easy to put them back together again on a clear block.  These little guys are too cute and make me smile.  They were colored using Stampin' Blends.

Hedgehog notebook and notebook folder

You may have seen these cute little hedgehogs popping up on pinterest and other Stampin' Up! posts.  I couldn't resist making some myself.  I have 2 projects to share with you featuring these cute little guys.

Project #1: Hedgehog notebook

The hedgehog was made using the sunflower from the Painted Harvest stamp set.  The larger flower image was stamped in Soft Suede--first stamped off before stamping the image.  Then the detail flower image was stamped in Soft Suede.  The face is the flower center stamped in crumb cake.  The eyes and nose is a stamp from the Foxy Friends stamp set, or it could be drawn in using a journaling pen.  Then cheeks were stamped in blushing bride using the eraser tip on a pencil.  I chose the sentiment from the Happiest of Days stamp set.

The whisper white piece that the hedgehog is stamped on measures 2 x 2 3/4".  The old olive frame measures 2 1/4 x 3".  The strip of designer paper measures 1 x 5 1/2".

I also added a pocket to the inside of the notebook.  The designer paper was cut to 3 x 4"  then the corner was trimmed off.  Fast Fuse was used to attach all of the pieces so that they would be secure and withstand a lot of handling.  The kraft grid journal is something that we used to have and it's included in the products for reference, but it is retired and no longer available.

Project #2: Hedgehog Notebook Folder

We made these folders in my December special holiday class.  Here are the cover designs.

Here is the inside.
20171202 Hedgehog notebook folder-open

This folder has a pocket on one side and a notebook attached to the other side.  It was made from a 2 pocket folder.  I originally shared how to make this folder in my post dated 5/2/17.  I've copied the instructions here.

Here is how to make this notebook folder:

  1. Start with a 2-pocket folder (see photo below).
  2. Cut down the height of the folder to 11".  Cut the top of the folder (the end that does not have the pockets).
  3. Cut the spine off the folder so that each side is 8 1/2" wide.
  4. Your original folder should now be in 2 pieces that are 8 1/2 by 11" each.
  5. Score down the middle of the 11" length at 5 1/2".  Fold on the score line.  You should now have 2 folders that are 8 1/2 x 5 1/2".
  6. One of your folders will open so that the pocket is on the left and the blank side is on the right.  For this one, cut the pocket flap on a diagonal so that it is easier to use.
  7. The other folder will have a pocket that opens upside down.  To fix this, cut open the top of the pocket, just follow the edge of the folder.  Then cut the flap on a diagonal.  Then use tear and tape to seal the bottom of the flap to make the pocket.  Now you have it set-up correctly.  See photo below.
  8. Attach a notepad to the right side of the inside of the folder.  I just used tear and tape on the back of the notepad and attached it to the folder.
  9. Decorate as desired and you have your finished folder!

Here are the cards that we made in January's class.  There are so many new awesome stamp sets from the Ocassions Catalog to try out!  The Bird Banter set and Fortunate to Know you sets were used on the first two cards.  Then my favorite Sale-A-Bration set Party Pandas was used in the last two cards.   The supplies used in each card are listed at the end of this post.

Card #1: Budgies

We had budgies growing up.  This card brings back happy memories of our cute little pets.  The budgies are from the Bird Banter set and colored using Stampin' Blends.  The words are from the Sunshine Sayings stamp set.  For the oval shapes, the stitched oval is from the Stitched Shapes Framelits and the scalloped oval is from the Layering Ovals Framelits.  The petal background was made using the Petal Burst embossing folder, which reminded me of feathers.

Card #2: Take Out and Fortune Cookie Card

This cute card was made using the Fortunate to Know You stamp set.  Each image was stamped, then cut out and mounted on the soft sky background.  Stampin' Blends were used to add some color and highlights to each of the images.  For the fortune cookie message, the stamp set contains many other choices.  The one I chose was for thanks.

Card #3: Cartwheeling Panda

This cute little panda is doing a celebratory cartwheel!  When I saw this idea, I thought it was so cute!  It just makes you smile.  The panda is from Party Pandas and the sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, which was punched out using the Classic Label punch.

Card #4: Valentine Panda

This could be a card for Valentine's day or anytime you'd like to send out some love.  Most of the images are from the Party Pandas set.  The heart is from the Tabs for Everything set.  The black baker's twine was wrapped around the card and secured behind the red circle with dimensionals.  And the background continues the circle theme by using the Polka Dot Basics embossing folder.
