Holiday Gingerbread Stocking

Here is a cute stocking that I made for our Stamped With Aloha Holiday Stamp Camp.  It came together relatively quickly using the Big Shot and the Trim Your Stocking Thinlits Dies.   I cut the stocking from the Be Merry Designer Paper and decorated it with a gingerbread from the Cookie Cutter Christmas set.

A pillow box is attached to the back of the stocking.  The Trim Your Stocking Thinlits Dies includes the pillow box along with other embellishments.  The pillow box is the perfect size for a gift card, earrings, chocolate squares and other little trinkets.

Here are the 12 stockings that I made for the prize patrol for stamp camp.

How to make the stocking:

  1. Cut the stocking from the Be Merry designer series paper.  The stocking measures 5 3/4 x 3 3/4".  From a 6x6" piece of designer paper, I was able to cut 2 stockings by laying the long edge of the stocking against one edge of the paper.  Then I cut another stocking by rotating the paper 180 degrees and aligning the stocking in the same way.  You do not need the top flap of the stocking, it can be trimmed off.
  2. Using a 3" piece of ribbon, fold into a loop, then staple to the back of the stocking.  The staple will be covered by the sock top.
  3. Cut the stocking heel, toe and top pieces using the corresponding thinlits from cherry cobbler.  Stamp the sentiment on the stocking top piece.  Adhere all pieces to the stocking using Fast Fuse.  I used this instead of snail so that it would be more secure.
  4. Stamp the gingerbread on whisper white using Soft Suede classic ink then punch out using the Cookie Cutter Builder punch.  Color the buttons with a real red marker.  For some sparkle, color the buttons again with Wink of Stella.  Attach the gingerbread to the stocking using dimensionals.
  5. Using the pillowbox thinlit, cut 2 of the pillowbox pieces from cherry cobbler.  Note: You can actually use 1 pillowbox piece and attach it to the back of the stocking, but I found it easier to make a whole pillowbox first, then attach the stocking to it.
  6. Fold on all of the pillowbox scoremarks.
  7. For 1 of the pillowbox pieces, trim off the long side tabs.  Also trim of the square shaped tab from the curved end.
  8. Adhere tear and tape to the long side tabs on the remaining pillowbox piece.  Trim off the square shaped tab from the curved end.  Attach it to the trimmed pillowbox from step 7 along the long ends.
  9. Adhere tear and tape to the outside of one of the pillow box sides along the long ends.  Peel and attach the stocking.
  10. Fill the pillow box and you are done!

October Card Class "Holiday Wishes"

Here are the cards that we made in class this month, which were all about the holidays.

20171021 October class cards

Cards #1A, 1B, 1C and 1D: Watercolor Christmas

The Watercolor Christmas project kit was the source of the first four cards.  We made 1 of each of the four designs and used the coordinating Watercolor Christmas stamp set for the sentiments.  For additional shine, we used the gold foil from 1 of the envelope liners and cut it up to add to each card face.  The rest of the emblishments were included in the project kit too.

Card 2: All Hearts Come Home for Christmas

This card was inspired by a Belgian Demonstrator's card.  I like how she used the stitched oval framelit and scalloped oval framelit cut outs in Whisper white to create a cozy winter scene.   The house stamps and tree shapes are from the Hearts Come Home stamp set and coordinating Hometown Greetings Edgelits dies.  The star cutouts are from the Hometown Greetings Edgelits dies and the sky was sponged in Pool Party.

Cards 3A and 3B: Every Good Wish

Cherry Cobbler is my favorite holiday red color and is featured on this card.  It is one of the colors used in the Be Merry designer series paper that was used for the background strip.  The stamp set used was Every Good Wish .  For the holly berries, those are pearls colored with a red sharpie.  I can just smell the pine boughs and mulled cider!

Card 4: Holiday Penguins

And the final card is my favorite--it has critters of course!  These cute little penguins were made using the balloon punch that includes a large balloon and medium balloon.  We trimmed off the balloon ends and were left with the shape used for the penguin body.  The white tummies were made using the 1" circle punch and 3/4" circle punch. The eyes were made using the 1/4" circle punch and journaling pens.  For the wings, the bow builder punch's ribbon shape was used and cut in half.  For the igloo, it was punched using the 2 1/4" circle and embossed using the brick embossing folder.  The background designer paper was from Be Merry, same as card 3.  Have a holly jolly penguin holiday!
