June Card Class "Sleepovers & S'mores"

Hello summer!  The cards that we made in class this month remind me of this fun time of year.  You may also notice that I swapped out one of the cards from the sneak peek post--you'll see it in August's class instead.  Here we go...

20170624 June cards

Card #1: Lemon and Limeade

We need cold refreshment during the summer and what's better than lemonade!  Here is pink lemonade and a limeade.  The Mixed Drinks stamp set uses 2 step stamping to create the images--I stamped the outline in Memento Tuxedo black then filled in each glass with the matching images stamped in Powder Pink and Lemon Lime Twist.  Having a cherry with ice and a lime slice with a straw make them more appetizing.  Then coloring the liquids with Clear Wink of Stella really finishes it off.  The circle is the 2 3/8" size from the layering circles framelits.  The Lemon Lime Twist half of the card is embossed with the new Polka Dots Basic textured embossing folder.

Card #2: Bike Ride

Riding our bikes around the neighborhood was always fun.  Having a dog to ride on your bike with you is even better.  We didn't have a dog but wished we did.  This bike was made using the Bike Ride stamp set and coordinating Build a Bike framelits.  This stamp uses 2-step stamping too--the dog was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black, then the body was stamped in crumb cake and the kerchief in dapper denim.  For the bike, the frame was stamped in Smoky Slate and then the handlebar grips, pedal and seat were each stamped in Sweet Sugarplum.  It can be used for any occasion--use the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set to determine which sentiment would be best, then stamp and punch out with the Classic Label punch.

Card #3: You're Delightful

This card features the You're Delightful hostess set and Pick a Pattern designer series paper.  I did 3 different versions to use the caption images and P.S. messages from the stamp set.  The happy face with camera designer paper reminds me of photos on summer vacation.  It's a simple design that is easy to adapt with other stamps sets and designer paper.

Card #4: At the Bon Dance

So this is the card that was not included in the sneak peek.  Once I created the little girl (from June's Inspiration Night, see post on 6/20), I knew I had to make a card with her at a bon dance, a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor ancestors, which is a summer event that includes food and traditional Japanese dance.  She is also featured on my parent's 50th anniversary card from my post on 6/26.  She is made primarily using the new Lemon Builder punch.  Please see the instructions on my post from 6/26 for how to make her.  The Foil Frenzy specialty designer paper was perfect for her kimono.  For the lanterns, I used the new Circle Tab punch.  I punched it in Whisper White and Basic Black.  Then using the Basic Black tab as the base, I cut down the rectangular end to be thinner and shorter and cut the tab into 2 pieces.  Then for the white piece, I trimmed out only the circle portions of the tab and attached it on top of the black base.  They were then attached to the card with dimensionals lined up with the linen thread.

 Hope you enjoyed June's class!

Happy 50th Anniversary

My mom and dad had their 50th anniversary this month!  We all went out to a special dinner at Hy's and they will be going to Japan later this year to celebrate too.  I wanted to make a card from all of us to help commemorate their milestone anniversary.  I had so much fun making it and was really happy with how it turned out.

20170617 50th anniversary card

There is a snow topped Mt. Fuji that I cut out from Sahara Sand and Whisper White.  The puffy clouds on the Soft Sky card base were made using sponge daubers and Whisper White craft ink.  The 50th anniversary year was written on the 3/4" Real Red circle with a journaling pen.  For the cute little couple, I made them out of the new Lemon Builder punch:

  • The head is the lemon shape punched out of Powder Pink.  For their bangs, it's a little over 1/2 of the lemon shape punched out of Basic Black.  For the girl, the ends of the lemon shape were covered with 3/4" circles for little buns.  Then for the boy, the ends were trimmed off so his head was more circular.  For the faces, I used the 05 size journaling pen and an eraser top in Powder Pink classic ink for the cheeks.
  • For each kimono, the lemon shape was punched out of designer paper.  Then the V was cut from one end and a 3/4" circle punched from Powder Pink was mounted to the back for the neck.   The obi (belt) is a 1/2" wide strip also cut from coordinating designer paper and attached to the kimono.  Then silver cord was wrapped around the middle.
  • The head and body were attached with the heads tilted towards each other.   Then the cute couple was attached to the card using dimensionals.  As a final touch for the girl, I used a silver heart from the metallic enamel shapes and some flowers in her hair with rhinestones.

Thank you mom and dad for everything.  And it's only fitting that you were the inspiration for my favorite card ever!

Supplies

Here are the supplies that were used to make this card.  You may also notice some retired items in this card--the designer paper, which is from Sale A Bration a few years ago, the Washi Punch, the Word Window punch and the little flower punch--these retired items are not included on the supply list.

A Toast to the new In Color Collection

I just had my 2017-2018 New Catalog Open house on Saturday, June 3rd.  Each attendee got to make 3 note card sized cards.  I wanted to feature all of the new 2017-2019 in-colors: Powder Pink, Fresh Fig, Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide.  I found the perfect stamp set to use--Mixed Drinks.  Thanks to all who were able to stop by!

Card #1: Pair of Wine

This card uses Berry Burst as the featured cardstock and ink.  The wine in the glasses were both stamped with Berry Burst--the lighter color in the taller glass was achieved by stamping off before stamping the image.  The same technique was used for the bubbles.  The wine and bubbles were also colored with Clear Wink of Stella to make it sparkle.

Card #2: Pink Lemonade Cocktails

This card features Powder Pink and Fresh Fig.  Coloring it with Clear Wink of Stella along with the ice helps to make it look more refreshing.

Card #3: Limeade

The final card shows off Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide.  The Lemon Lime Twist will be a fun color to use--it's modern and gives cards a POP!  This one reminds me of the refreshing drinks you can get at food truck events where you get to keep the glass.  This one is colored with Clear Wink of Stella too.
