November Card Class "Under the Stars"

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Here are the cards we did in my last class of the year.  We made more holiday cards of course!  All of the supplies used to make these cards are included at the end of this post.

20161119 Nov class cards

Card #1: Reindeer in the Window

I love critters.  This time, it's a red nosed reindeer looking into your house.  The window frame was made with the Hearth & Home Thinlits dies.  The falling snow was embossed using the Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The reindeer was stamped in Basic Black archival ink on whisper white cardstock and punched using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.  Then it was colored using aqua painters and soft suede classic ink.  The nose was colored with real red classic marker and then Wink of Stella clear was colored over it to add some sparkle.

Card #2: Snow Friends

A simple card of a penguin with his snowman pals.  All of these images are from the Snow Place photopolymer set.  I stamped the 2 snowmen on each side first, then the penguin in the middle.  Because the penguin wings are solid, you can't see the overlap with the snowmen.  The sentiment could be stamped directly on the whisper white; however, I stamped it on a separate piece of real red cardstock so that it could be placed anywhere and we didn't need to worry about stamping it crooked!

Card #3: It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

This sentiment is from the Wonderful Year stamp set and the background paper is from the Candy Cane Lane Designer Series paper.  The little gingerbread man was cut from the designer paper.  The spot that it was cut from is covered by the sentiment.  There are also other cute images from the designer paper that can be cut out as well.  Then the mini jingle bells were strung on the baker's twine to add a special ring to the card.

Card #4: Merry & Bright Tree

The colors on this card were inspired by a quilt that I saw where the quilter made a holiday tree quilt using different shades of purple, silver and cream.  In this card, I used elegant eggplant for the tree and perfect plum for the card backing.  This Christmas specialty designer paper was framed in basic black and used for the background.  The tree was cut using the largest tree in the Perfect Pines Framelits Dies.  And the star topper was also in this framelit set.  To continue the star theme, little stars were punched using the Confetti Stars punch and the base was embossed using the Lucky Stars embossing folder.

Special November Holiday Class "Candy Canes & Cookies"

I had an additional class in November just for the holidays where we made notecard sized cards, tags and packaged them all up in a cute folder.  Everyone made 3 sets--perfect for gifting.   Each set contained: 1 folder (3 total), 4 different notecard sized cards with envelopes (12 total), and 6 tags (18 total).  Because we were making so many things, my goal was to keep everything simple (and cute of course!).   To do this, I used my favorite items from the holiday catalog--the Candy Cane Lane Suite and Cookie Cutter Christmas.  We used just 3 classic ink pad colors--Real Red, Early Espresso and Soft Suede.

Folder

I wanted a cute folder to hold all of the cards and tags.  This folder was made using Early Espresso cardstock, it was cut to 10 x 8 1/4".   For the pockets, it was scored 2 1/2" along the 8 1/4" edge.  Then it was scored at 4 3/4" and 5 1/4" along the 10" edge.  This created a 1/2" thickness for the folder so that it could hold all of the cards and tags.

To assemble the folder:

  1. Fold on all of the score marks.
  2. Cut the 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle from the middle of the pockets.  It also helps to cut it at an angle to the fold lines so that the folder closes easily.
  3. Use Tear and Tape to seal the outer edges of the folder pockets.
  4. Use a notecard sized envelope for the tag pockets on the inside of the folder.  Seal the envelope, then cut 2" from each edge.  Notch a half circle from the front using the 1" circle punch.  Then attach one to each pocket.  These will hold 3 tags each.

Card #1: Sweet Season Card

This super fast and cute card featured the Candy Cane Lane designer paper with the gingerbread, mittens, trees and stars.  It is cut into a 3" square, so no paper goes to waste--you can make 16 of these cards from one sheet.  The sentiment is from the coordinating Candy Cane Christmas stamp set and cut using the 2" circle punch.  The silver heart is from the Metallic Enamel Shapes.

Card #2: Gingerbread House Card

This was another simple card because the focus is the Candy Cane Lane designer paper again--the gingerbread houses are too cute.  Silver metallic enamel shapes were used to decorate the houses.  The only stamping is the sentiment on the heart.  The Candy Cane Lane washi tape was used along the top border to add even more pizzazz.  All of the 5 washi tape designs go well with this card.

Card #3: Gingerbread Cookie Card

The gingerbread cookie image is from the Cookie Cutter Christmas set and stamped in Soft Suede.  It was punched using the coordinating Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.  The bow and heart on the gingerbread were also made from this punch.  The buttons on the cookie are silver metallic enamel shapes.  The scalloped circles were cut using the 2 3/8" scallop (real red) and  2 1/2" scallop (crumb cake) from the Layering Circles Framelits.  The candy mints were punched from the Candy Cane Lane designer paper.  The sentiment is from the Tin of Tags stamp set (on sale this month for 25% off).

Card #4: Reindeer Card

The reindeer image is from the Cookie Cutter Christmas set and punched using the Cookie cutter builder punch.  For the girl, the antlers were trimmed off.  The red nose on the reindeer was made by punching the ends of the gingerbread feet and them trimming it down to the size of the nose.  The sentiment is also from the Cookie Cutter Christmas set.  After it was stamped, the whisper white was embossed using the Lucky Stars embossing folder.  There are also tiny stars and dots stamped on the real red strip.  This stamp is from the Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set.

Holiday Tags

The base for all of these tags was the Candy Cane Lane Designer Paper cut to 2 x 3".   The tag tops were made using the Scalloped Tag Topper punch.  8" cherry cobbler bakers twine was used for the string.

For the first set of 3 tags (front and back views), the images were from the Candy Cane Christmas set.  The images were cut using the 1 1/4" circle punch.  The framing circle was punched from Early Espresso cardstock using the 1 3/8" circle punch.  On the back of the tag, the 1 1/2" circle punch was used to cut the circle.

20161105 holiday tags

For the 2nd set of 3 tags (front and back views), the sentiments are from Tin of Tags, Stitched with Cheer and Holly Jolly Greetings stamp sets.  The circles on the front and back were cut using the 1 1/2" circle punch.
